Retirement

Being retired you have to manage the rest of your life as best as you can. However, there are many things to manage, such as your time, your money, your health and your relationships.

For those of you who do more than watch television during your free time, you might like to go window shopping, or enjoy other outdoor activities such as swimming and/or golf. You might have a hobby that you share with others such as stamp collecting or arts and crafts. You can also make things, such as models, furniture and/or anything else that comes to mind. So too, you are limited by the amount of money you have available each month just for having fun.

How do you manage your money? You have those living expenses, such as the payment of your utility bills, phone bills, home maintenance, laundry and medical expenses if you must take drugs and visit the doctor on a regular basis. It is wise to make a monthly expense budget which includes the purchase of food and cloths.

Having determined an estimate of such expenses, then you can easily determine how much money is available to do other things with the time that you have available. You might want to save some of that money for a vacation to a far-away place or simply take a few day trips to places of interests like museums, parks, sight seeing and/or theme parks. Then again, you might want to have a picnic with a loved one and/or friends who share all or most of your interests.

There is no such thing as a completely worry free retirement because bad things happen to everyone during their lifetime. Your biggest worry is having enough money to remain healthy, active and alive. That is why you must have medical insurance to pay for most or all of those medical expenses such as doctor visits, dental work, operations and recovery times in the hospital and at home. Do you have adequate health insurance?

It is sad but true that sooner or later you will not be able to care for yourself or a loved one. That is if you do not suddenly pass away. When you do pass away what will happen to your home and your personal property? You might want to give it all to your children or charity. Therefore, it is important that you have a “Last Will and Testament” available for that purpose.

The point here is that your retirement years are your reward for all of those past years of work to support yourself and your family. Life continues while you are alive, so you must prepare for your retirement from the workforce. Where you live and how much money you save truly does determine how well you will live after you retire or can no longer be employed.

Keep in mind that happiness is a state of mind even if you are not rich. Then too, there is something to do if you take the time to think about it, and then make plans for your future.
