Retirement

Your retirement income is money that you will receive after you reach the the prescribed age for receiving such income. It can also be money that you earned in the past and are now receiving in the form of a pension and/or the proceeds of an employer provided retirement plan prior to retirement. During his or her working years he or she could have worked for an employer within the United States of America for ten or more years. I f so, he or she most certainly paid a certain percentage of such wages into a government retirement program known as Social Security, together with a matching amount paid by that employer or employers.

As such, if you have retired from the work force, meaning that you longer receive an income from active employment, you may begin receiving a Social Security payment soon after your 62nd birthday. Good for you, but if you retired from the work force at the age of 70 you would receive almost twice as much, as the law is currently written and in force.

Generally speaking, retirement income is the receipt of unearned income, in the form of interest from savings, stock dividends and/or annuities. In other words, it is money that your prior and/or current investments, savings and checking accounts, pensions and the other forms of investments earn for you.

Then again, you might be retired but you might also have a hobby or some such occupation that allows you to earn a modest amount of money. If so, the gains made from the resale of collectibles, such as coins and stamps, works of art and/or hand crafted items can also be considered as retirement income, in that such income is not your primary means of support. That is, if you are not in the business of earning an income as a dealer in used items or as a maker of tangible personal property for sale to the public.

On the other hand, if your retirement income allows you to live a reasonably comfortable life you really do not have a reason to work, but you are not prevented from making a few extra dollars just for the fun of it. Your life is not over and there are far better things to do with the last years of your life, besides spending your days watching your television.

You can also share your knowledge and wisdom with those who are younger than you. Be that as it may, get whatever you can get because us old folks are truly living within a society full of truly greedy people who, as a group, give little to those who cannot properly support themselves. In that regard, each of us old folks should become politically active by getting off our rump and hopping on the stump for more benefits for seniors.
