Legalization of Prostitution

Prostitution is said to be the oldest profession in the world. Yet it still remains illegal in some countries. Legalizing prostitution would take it out of the control of organized crime. The government could license female and male prostitutes who would operate out of buildings zoned for prostitution. Away from schools, shopping areas and the entertainment sector. The government could give the prostitutes a pay scale that would enable them to live comfortably. The legal hookers would have to undergo an annual medical screening as a condition of their license. The government could also tax their customers.

But if prostitution was legalized, the government would have to hit illegal prostitutes and their pimps very heavily in jail time in order to drive them out of business. People who sought out illegal prostitutes would also go to jail.

Legalizing prostitution would give the government total control over this ancient profession. Prostitutes could be told where to work, when to work, what to charge. It could be made safe for everyone, while getting rid of the criminal element.

Prostitution has been around for centuries and will be around for centuries into the future. The only thing the government can do is to take it out of the criminal world by legalizing it. It would be made safe for both prostitutes and their customers, while making money for the government. A win-win situation.
