Identity Theft

Identity theft is an ever growing problem that can affect anyone at anytime. It is a scary fact to know that someone can steal your identity from you and ruin your credit not to mention your life. Identity theft is a serious crime and everyone should be aware of the dangers of it.

You should monitor your credit so if someone was to gain access to your personal information and use it then you would be aware of the problem and could stop the theft from making more of a mess of your life than not knowing about the problem and finding out at a later date which would be a lot more serious by then. Identity theft can affect you when you go to buy a house or car.

Don’t give out your personal information to just anyone because you never know what that person is going to do with it. Everyone should check their credit at least once a year just to be on the safe side. Accidents can happen and you may not even realize that you have let someone gain access to your personal information.

A sad but true fact is that when you sign a contract agreement for credit with a major credit lender company there is a clause in that contract that says that if you do not pay your debut with them as you agree to with their terms that they will give your account information over to a third party for collection.

This is where some of the problems start with identity theft because if you they don’t collect the debut they will turn right around and sell your account information which includes all your personal information to another company for collection. This will happen over and over again which gives your information to an unknown number of people who can do what they want to with it.

This act in its self should be illegal. No one should be able to sell your personal information to anyone for any reason but this does happen and it happens everyday.

The best way to avoid a problem of this nature is to read all credit agreements before you sign them and agree to the terms of the company. You should also be responsible with your debuts and pay them on time and by the terms that you agree to.

If you are a victim of identity theft you should file a police report and contact the company’s where the thief used your information. You should also contact the three major credit reporting agencies. When you contact them be sure that if you call them that you also do it in writing to.

This will help you get the information you need to stop the theft and get your life back. Clearing up the problem of identity theft, if you’re a victim can be a hard and long process so take the time and precautions to protect yourself its worth it.
