Easy Ways to Save Money at the Grocery Store

For most families, reducing household expenditure is a necessity as the cost of living continues to increase at a much greater rate than salaries. One way to do this is to reduce the amount of money that is spent on grocery shopping and other household items. There are a number of easy ways to save money on your grocery bills.

Use Coupons

You can save a fortune on your shopping by using coupons. You can use printable coupons from the internet, or scour your local paper. You will also find store newspapers instore or sometimes they are even delivered to your home – and if you couple those with the manufacturers’ coupons then you will be able to make some massive savings perhaps even getting some items for free.  And don’t forget about coupon machines that can be found  in some of the larger supermarket chains such as Target and Walmart – when you pay for your goods the chances are you will be given more coupons to use on your next visit.

Shop Online

Shopping online is a very convenient way to do your shopping. Not only can you buy your groceries from the comfort of home, but you will be saving money on petrol too. You can take all the time you need to pick the exact items you need without making panic buys that happen when you’re at the supermarket and you see something that you use regularly and you can’t remember if you need it or not so you buy it anyway. Shopping online will also stop you making impulse buys.

Buy in Bulk

Supermarkets always have offers on; buy one get one half price; buy one get one free; 100 percent free, some of them even offer buy one get two free! These items are called loss leaders – and you can make big savings on these. So when you see items that you use regularly on offer it’s wise to stock up. But don’t forget to make sure that you are actually saving money before you throw caution to the wind – take a couple of minutes to calculate the per unit or per weight cost of each item.

Make a list

Last but not least – always make a list before you start shopping, whether you are in the store or shopping online.  This is the single most important thing that you will do. Making a list will ensure that you only buy the items that you need and nothing more.
